ACC woes…

Why doesnt ACC start a ranking system for their members?!?!? ECC does it, and ACC definitely arranges the matches for the countries. Why cant they just use EXACTLY the same system as ICC and produce their own regional rankings???

After the recent ENT SEA and ENT Middle East Cup tournaments, in my opinion, the rankings in Asia below test level as the following:

1-6: UAE, Nepal, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar
7-12: Singapore, Hong Kong, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Maldives
13-18: Thailand, Iran, Bhutan, Myanmar, Brunei, China

Why cant the ACC just hold these 3 division competitions every year like ECC ?? They can add a lot more structure to their development process that way. ACC can do ALL 3 divisions every year, since they are not financially restricted that much like the ECC. Every year you do the 3 divisional competitions, and relegation and promotion takes effect the following year.

Why Maldives and Bhutan were playing in a South East Asia trophy, I dont know. Why Afghanistan is playing in a Middle East Cup I dont know. I also dont know why Oman, UAE etc were missing from the middle east cup, while all of Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia etc were missing from the South East Asia Cup. All this happy go lucky structures that ACC follows is strange.

They should keep it simple, Middle East Cup should consist of Qatar, Oman, UAE, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. South East Asia Cup should consist of Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar, China, Thailand. The South Asia cup should consist of Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, Bhutan and perhaps Bangladesh A.

Additionally, ACC should definitely go ahead with the 2 tournaments I mentioned in one of my previous blogs, the A team and the U19 Asia Cup.

One final tournament, that I think the ACC should consider is a biannual event. Something like EuroAsia, AfroAsia or AmeriAsia cup. This should be between the top 3 sides of Asia and the top 3 sides of another ICC region (I mean top below test level). The 6 team tournament can be played on a round robin system and would be good workout for all the teams involved. ACC can do EuroAsia one year, and AfroAsia the next or something like that.

All in all I think there are a lot of ways in which ACC can bring some organization to their development tournaments and make them interesting for their members to follow and look forward to.

But ranking is a must, and they should just start that immediately on their website like the ECC.

I wrote this post in Feb 2006….. I saw today that ACC has started a ranking system, probably has been in place for a few months now. The rankings for the non test asian team is as follows:
