News: UAE to send youth pace bowlers to India…..
A little surprising that a ‘real’ development news has come out of UAE, but they are planning to hold a talent identification (or perhaps it would get classified as talent selection) clinic in which they will select 1 bowler each from U17, U15 and U19 and send them to the MRF Pace foundation in India for a 3 weeks trip.
If the UAE can make this into a yearly event, it would do their elite bowlers a great deal of good. Also, something similar perhaps needs to be done for their best batsmen at these age levels as well.

Well done to them. When will Nepal watch and learn…esp being the next foor neighbours!!
Good to see the UAE making an effort to develop young players, but I don’t think that they should have earmarked only one spot for each age group because there could be more than one bowler who deserves an opprotunity like this.
Noire…… I think Nepal will be better off in trying to do a few other things………
1) Professionalize their squad, and they can actually do that by allowing sponsers to field their own teams in the domestic competition, like Pakistan used to do. So instead of the 6 regions, they can have 6 sponsors field their teams, and they can limit them by saying that one sponsor can only select players from a particular region. Nepal can also avoid conflict by choosing an airline, a soft drink, an electronics manufacturer, and 3 other big types of industries. They HAVE all of them and there would be benefit for the sponsor to back them.
2) They need to set up a national calender for the national team, at least 10-15 games against Academy or A teams, or even domestic teams from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. That should be the most cost effective for them.
But yes, sending their promising players to cricket academies in test countries is good as well….. though Nepal already have a lot of talent and they should be able to go forward with whatever they have at the U19 level if they give them the right oppurtunities beyond that level……..
Yes Nasir, I know wut u mean. Its a big sports in Nepal..but I dunno how we dont seem to attract any sponsors. We have a big fault with the Cricket Association. But idea 1 isnt that bad..I might put that up in the fan club. So is the second and the idea to send our players to the Pace academy or the batting academy. But the main problem is the Association. With such a big popularity with the urban dwellers..it almost toppled football as the nation’s best game once. But we cant beat football now..Since last two years we have had a preoper league..and once the league had a sum of 100000 Nepalese Rs ($1000 app) now the league gives 2000000 ($22000 app) to the winning team. ..just in two years..now theres fast tract development for u!
On the other hand, they havent been able to sell Cricket!! After all the gd performance and hype u wud think that’s easy. Also we fans have decided to take matters into our own hand by openin a fan club which will work as a shadow Association, judging the performance of hte cricket association. And if the Association doenst do a thing..we plannin on doin stuff..but that will take some time…months or even years! Cant live with it anymore!
How many times have I said that CAN needs to do more to attract sponsors, and ICC needs to hold CAN on a tighter leash and demand results from them. If Maldives can find 5 or 6 sponsors for its National League, Nepal must be able to do the same. Without the money, Nepal is losing so many years of further improvement
I think the question is WHY doesnt Nepal or CAN organize or promote the game properly?
Its in their own interest to do so, not only because they will get personal publicity, but also because it will mean a successful org and better salaries…….
so why not?
Rego mate..I know of ur concern and I have the same dilema. I am just a fan of the game….and hold no responsible position wutsoever in the association. If things went my way..I wud have sacked all the ppl in CAN and brought in a new dedicated team! I know a few ppl who wud do us a world of gd! But there is a lot of politics in the sports..like any other actaully.
And Why is the important question as Nasir points out! But Rego is got a point too!
Why is the major question? Why is Nepal not able to garner funds or sponsorship. Maybe ACC and ICC should do a yearly evaluation of the situation every Associate is in, and try to iron out problems or commend good initiatives based on their findings.
Yeah Rego..U are dead right. I feel we associate nations are being so neglected..esp us in the Asian regions!
