News: Scotland gets sponsor for Bangladesh series…

Scotland has landed a sponsorship deal for the Bangladesh tour with a major oil company. This is great news, but I am a little confused. What happenned to Lyods TSB?, who have always been Scotland sponsors? I think such a commercial backing will at least get Scotland to be playing more and more of cricket IN Bangladesh, or WITH Bangladesh in the comming years as well.

Presumably Cairn energy are sponsoring the series and Lloyds TSB still sponsor the team.

Bruce, the article says “…. Cairn Energy PLC, is to be one of the main sponsors for the nation’s cricketers on their December trip to Bangladesh …. ”

I think they are talking about team sponsor, and not series sponsor…….. Bangladesh should be able to find the main series sponsor themselves as well, who would pay much higher than this oil company……..

It could be a joint sponsorship much like what we have in South Africa where the test side is jointly sponsored by a cellphone service provider and a brewery.

As you say Nasir, the article says that “… Cairn Energy PLC, is to be one of the main sponsors”.

The fact that Scotland has gained themselves a second major sponsor is proof that Scottish cricket is getting a greater share of the limelight and this looks good for the future
