News: Finally…. a step in the right direction by UAE….

Unfortunately, its not by the board. However, this news piece does show that there is interest in the locals as well.

UAE perhaps went as far as they could go with an associate set up 2-3 years back. They have since stayed at the same level. The only way forward is for the game to go to the locals. Interestingly, there is a ready made set up for the locals to now get into the game. This could not have been possible without the expats.

I think this is an excellent move made by certain parties in the UAE cricketing communities. Though it will create frictions within UAE Cricket in the short run because both parties are backed by very powerful players in the UAE government etc, in the long run, UAE cricket should benefit.

I’m very impressed by Alawi Shukri. I’ve played against him, and feel proud to have done so, seeing that at 18 he’s taking pulling some of the strings in this monumental task

Perhaps what the UAE board needs to do is to introduce a national 1 day comp, featuring 2 teams from every cricket playing emirate…… these would be Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain, Fujirah…… one team will be composed ONLY of nationals…. the other team will be open, meaning that nationals CAN play in them, but it may also be composed of all non national residents ……. They can play round robin during the course of the tournament…. at least this would gaurantee 50% oppurtunity for nationals…… after a few years, once the nationals are at par with the non nationals, then the need for 2 seperate teams would not be there, and they can have a single team…. that would at that time reflect the national/non national composition a lot better………

They must also have a seperate schools league for Arabic speaking schools…….
