News: UAE destroyed by Canada…

Last year, UAE lost to Namibia in a similar manner…… looks to me like the world rankings are pretty much correct, with UAE not being able to fare well against anyone away from home….. in fact, the word that I should be using is woeful……

UAE players are pretty much professional players….. some of them have been called in especially to play cricket from the subcontinent….. such performances do not make sense against amateurs……

Somehow, ,not only at home, but also away, they match up with Scotland…… thats a bit of an enigma…….

UAE players are pretty much professional players???

where does that come from?? they move to the Gulf from Pakistan to find jobs and earn good salaries. Cricket becomes part of life as they start playing in domestic leagues. Furthermore, the UAE coach and some of the players have constantly reiterated that it is extremely hard for them to balance work with cricket in a country where government support and their status as migrants means that they are constantly slogging.

Even so, they do train every day in some of the best facilities in the world. The problem is lack of quality opposition, something the ACC really needs to look at more closely throughout the region (We saw the same problem with HK in WCL Div. 3), especially in light of their recent refusal to join the ICC HPP for countries such as UAE.

This guy Arshad Ali….. he was someone for whom ECB found a job in Emirates airlines or something……. and his job is to play cricket for Emirates airlines…….. at least that is what I read in one of his interviews where he was thanking Emirates and ECb for all this……

From my knowledge, one of the better players who is an amateur in UAE is Khurram Khan….. he has from time to time, also declined tours etc because he cannot mix and match……..

The bulk of them are amateurs..I think a few, maybe two or three including Arshad Ali, who is the captain may be contracted in some way.

I think its time UAE seriously looked at participating in the Bangladesh National League or the Indian or Sri Lanka second or plate division comps. Its the only way they’ll improve. They do have to find a way around the “amateur” problem.
