News: Zim to play as SA’s 7th Franchise…

I am not all too well aware of SA’s franchise system, but I think that this essentially means that Zim, who were playing at the SAA provincial level, will now be playing at a higher level, at least for the one day league.

Btw…. if the Franchise has 6 franchise players, then are only 5 Zimbabweans going to play in this Zim team? Or are some of the Zim players also considered to be franchise players now? I think that a couple of them, Taibu and Taylor, are definitely SA franchise standard.

I initially thought that this is also the way forward for other neighbouring SA countries, like Namibia. But I read now that this was done specifically due to ICC’s request to provide better standard of play for Zim.

Actually, Zimbabwe will play three four-day games against a SA Composite XI (composed of young, emerging players from the six SA franchises), the first of which has already started…From what I can understand, essentially the same Zim team will play in both the domestic ODI and Twenty20 competitions as the 7th team….I think the term ‘franchise’ is how the other 6 teams are referred to commonly and hence the usage…Btw, when did Zim play in the SAA provincial level?…Currently, Zim is fielding what is essentially an A team in that competition in which Namibia have also been participating…

Zim was given the option to play their full team in SAA provincial….. they have chosen to play their select XI in there instead…… maybe because they knew that their full team will be playing in the franchise cricket…..

I dont know what type of players are in the SA composite XI, but Zim just racked up 493 against them, which is a lead of nearly 200 runs…

Zim have beaten the SA Composite XI by 10 wkts.

I think the Zim/WI series coming up will be interesting….. WI are not the best team out there…..

Yes, it may be that this is further evidence of the decline of West Indies rather than the improvement of Zim. Still, you can only beat the team in front of you:-)

yeah to be honest they are gone really below in rankings i think future of cricket in WI is very dull unless real changes are need to make.
